Flexible Cables for Electric Vehicle ChargingTwo new cables developed specifically for electric vehicle charging are designed for use under high mechanical and thermal stress and are available in two versions: the cable for electric vehicle charging has a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) jacket for indoor use, while the extra flexible low-temperature cable has an extremely flexible TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) jacket for outdoor use and extreme temperature requirements. With these two types of cables, TE offers a cable range that can be used globally in response to different geographic requirements.

The new electric car charging cables are suitable for charging processes of levels 1-2 for both private and public EV charging stations. They meet the standards of Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 62 as well as National Electric Code (NEC) 400 & 625. This means that TE has designed the composition of the wire, insulation and jacket materials in such a way that the cables are extremely robust and provide high performance even in extreme situations, such as during high temperature fluctuations and mechanical and chemical influences. All materials are resistant to cold, heat, abrasion and fire. The TPE jacketed version is especially impressive thanks to its excellent thermal properties at cold temperatures: even at temperatures down to -30° C / -22°F, the material stays soft and flexible. The remarkable performance of both cables has been qualified by extensive testing such as for cold bend requirements per UL 62, cold impact and crush resistance per UL 1277 or requirements of the VW-1 Flame Test.
